Composite windows combine a natural timber interior with a durable, low-maintenance aluminium exterior to deliver a window that performs exceptionally well and looks beautiful from both sides. They are increasingly specified across London for renovations, extensions, and new builds where homeowners want slim sightlines, outstanding thermal performance, and a warm, characterful interior finish.
Composite windows, also known as alu-clad or timber aluminium windows, offer a unique combination of properties that neither pure timber nor pure aluminium can match on their own.
Natural timber interior for warmth, character and excellent insulation.
Powder-coated aluminium exterior for durability, low maintenance and slim sightlines.
Outstanding thermal performance across double and triple glazed specifications.
Lifespan of 40 years or more from a quality alu-clad system.
Compatible with double glazing windows and triple glazed window specifications.
Available in a full RAL colour range, with different shades inside and out.
No need for regular repainting or sealing on the exterior.
Suitable for conservation areas, listed buildings and heritage-sensitive projects.
A composite window frame has two distinct layers working together. The interior is timber – a natural insulator that adds warmth, reduces thermal bridging and gives a characterful finish inside the home. The exterior is clad in powder-coated aluminium, which is highly resistant to weather, corrosion and UV degradation without needing periodic repainting.
This construction means composite windows consistently achieve better thermal performance than standard aluminium windows, whilst requiring far less maintenance than a traditional timber window – making them a sound long-term investment for London homeowners and architects alike.
We work with leading composite window manufacturers to supply a full range of styles for London homes. Whether you are upgrading a period terrace, renovating an Edwardian semi, or designing a contemporary extension, we help you select the right style, profile, and glazing for the project.
Side-hinged casement window styles in flush or rebated profiles, suited to period and contemporary homes alike.
Sash windows in timber aluminium construction, replicating traditional vertical sliding profiles with modern thermal performance.
Classic bay windows with aluminium-clad exteriors that stand up to the London climate whilst maintaining a warm interior finish.
Dual-action tilt and turn windows for safe ventilation and easy cleaning, particularly popular in upper-floor positions.
Timber aluminium French windows with a slim aluminium exterior and warm timber interior, ideal for garden rooms, rear extensions, and glazed walls opening onto outdoor spaces.
Shaped windows, gable windows, top hung window units, and fixed light windows – bespoke options for architectural features, stairwells, and vaulted spaces.
Looking for something else? Please get in touch with us. We work with a wide range of timber window styles and manufacturers.
The aluminium exterior is factory powder-coated and available across a full RAL colour range, including gloss, matt, satin and textured finishes. The timber interior can be lacquered to show the natural wood grain or painted in any RAL colour to complement your interior. Dual colour finishes – with a different shade inside and out – are a popular choice for London homes, keeping a classic white or natural timber tone inside whilst using a bold or neutral colour on the exterior.
Double glazing
The standard choice for most London homes and the most common starting point for double glazing windows near me searches. Composite double glazed units provide excellent energy efficiency and comfortably meet current building regulations for thermal performance.
Triple glazing
Triple glazed window units are available for positions where extra insulation or noise reduction is required – near busy roads, rail lines, or flight paths. Many composite systems achieve outstanding U-values with triple glazing, making them well-suited to low-energy and Passivhaus projects.
Acoustic glass
Laminated acoustic units reduce outside noise in urban and high-traffic locations, helping rooms feel calmer and more comfortable without altering the window’s appearance.
Composite windows are fitted with high-quality multi-point locking systems and ironmongery chosen to suit the style of the property. All windows can be specified to PAS 24 security standards, and additional night vent restrictors and child safety locks are available on request.
Composite windows are increasingly accepted in conservation areas and sensitive heritage settings, particularly where slim sightlines and timber-like interior profiles can be demonstrated to planning authorities. Working with specialist composite manufacturers, we can specify profiles and glazing bars that replicate original window details, and supply the technical documentation required to support planning applications and listed building consent submissions. This makes composite windows a practical and long-lasting alternative to pure timber for house window replacement projects in London’s many conservation areas.
Posted on dermot hayesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I spent an enormous amount of time researching doors and windows. I wanted triple glazed, thin elegant frames, affordability and value for money. I searched the net and contacted very many companies; some looked very good indeed apart from the affordability and some were not worth bothering about. I contacted Velfac UK who I had heard were very good and they put me on to Citi Homes Windows who handle their products. We went to visit the Citi Homes showroom and they were fantastic. Over a cup of tea we discussed with them what we wanted and they showed me frames that exactly fitted the brief. They were able to give me an estimate on the spot, based on approximate sizes and followed up with a visit to discuss the project with my builder and to take accurate measurements. They confirmed the price and we placed the order just before Christmas 2025, taking delivery in the middle of March 2026, about eight weeks turnaround if you take out the Christmas period. The windows and doors are installed and I am delighted with them. They are substantial and elegant frames of excellent quality. The fitters were great and very charming; in fact all the people at City Homes are very charming and excellent communicators which really helps. I think the doors and windows are of excellent value and I got exactly what I wanted; triple glazed, thin elegant frames, affordability and value for money. The total price including fitting was under £8000.00. I would certainly highly recommend them. Dermot Hayes.Posted on Rosie GastonTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wonderful experience with the team from start to finish. They replaced 5 floor to ceiling window panels for us after damage caused by a fire. The installation and service was seamless. Great communication, constant updates on progress, and the guys were super efficient, hard working, respectful and tidy. They’ve done a fab job and we couldn’t be happier with both the process and the final product. Thank you!Posted on Philip WareTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great people, great window.Posted on Celia BaconTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Citi Homes installed our new Velfac fully reversible top hung windows to our loft conversion. Linus was very proffessional and thorough and we're very pleased with the windows and installation. Giving 5 stars as can't really fault Citi Homes but jus to note the only downsides: - the lead time on the Velfac windows is longer than standard windows and due to the way the units are fitted meant the window openings were not able to be finished / completed until the units go in. - Standard terms by Citi to have the balance paid 2 weeks ahead of installation of the windows which we found to be irregular and a little concerning to pay the full amount up front ahead of installation. I note on qurying this, Citi Homes did agree to 10% to be retained until after installation which was appreciated given we had already agreed to their original terms but would suggest reviewing this ahead of placing the order if this is a concern for you.Posted on Paula BrownTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Citi Homes replaced the unusual rear double doors of my home in November 2025, following a burglary. I found the company to be very professional and trust worthy. Linas kept me up to date about the order and delivery date and the fitters were reliable, hard working and completed the work to a very high standard. Thank you. I am happy to recommend Citi Homes Windows Limited for future projects.Posted on Bronwen WilliamsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very happy with the new window, excellent quality, and Linas and the team could not have been more helpful, always ready to answer questions and provide advicePosted on michael suluTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I bought sliding doors and a glass-to-glass corner glazing unit for my home. Linas was super responsive and really helpful, giving me insight in to the difference between options and liasing with my builders to complete the project quickly. The installation team were friendly, efficient, and really precise in the work they did, it is clear that they value good work and that they will continually get business based on the standards they achieve. I will be using their sister company for any internal renovation projects I will undertake in the future.
Composite windows are one of several premium options we supply. Depending on the style of your property and your priorities, you may also want to consider:
Ultra-slim sightlines and maximum glass area, ideal for modern extensions and contemporary renovations. See our aluminium windows, aluminium casement windows, aluminium tilt and turn windows and aluminium bay window options.
The traditional choice for period properties, listed buildings and conservation areas. See our timber windows, timber sash windows and timber casement windows.
Quality composite windows are built for a long service life – typically 40 years or more with minimal maintenance. The aluminium exterior protects the timber core from weathering, meaning the frame retains its appearance and performance for decades. All composite windows we supply come with a manufacturer's warranty for added peace of mind.
The aluminium exterior requires very little upkeep – an occasional clean is usually all that is needed. The timber interior may benefit from a periodic wipe-down with a suitable product, but there is no need for regular repainting or sealing as with a traditional timber window.
Yes, in many cases. Composite windows with timber-like profiles, slim sightlines and heritage glazing options are increasingly accepted by local planning authorities.
Yes. The timber core provides excellent natural insulation, and composite systems consistently achieve strong U-values. With triple glazed window units, composite windows can reach U-values suitable for Passivhaus and low-energy builds.
Double glazing window costs for composite windows vary depending on the brand, system, size, style and glazing specification. As a premium product, composite windows sit above standard aluminium or uPVC in price, though the long service life and low maintenance make them a cost-effective long-term investment.
